Singing and moving, with embedded literacy strategy
This video (below) is a snippet of a lesson I taught with a Prep class (mostly 5 years old). The main focus of lesson was manipulating voice and recall of lyrics, but a second tier focus was singing and moving . The core repertoire song is 'Hey Hey', but I chose to mix things up a bit and keep the children interpreting the song in different ways. The video shows how I chose to substitute the word 'smiling' with 'sneaking' as well as incorporating supporting movement/actions. We also used other verbs like 'walking', 'dancing', 'crawling', 'tip-toeing' etc and moved according to the substitute verb. This is both an embedded literacy strategy and reflective of Gardener's learning theory of the benefits of using movement in early childhood education.
